Shifting of The Thoughts
Most of us spend too much time attempting to figure out how to make others act the way we want them to act. It is more useful to discover how we are acting in any situation, because we are ultimately in control. By observing positive or negative behavior in others, we are given the opportunity to examine ourselves and discover where we may be exhibiting similar behavior or qualities. I'm certain that you have heard the of the concept that everyone we meet and every situation we face is likely a reflection of ourselves. It is truly in the eye of the beholder. By exercising our perception, we can identify the qualities that we want to display most of the time.
Try this exercise to discover what is happening in your life:
- Think back to a situation that did not go exactly the way you wanted.
- Recall how the other person behaved and how you felt.
- Write down beside every negative behavior an opposite positive behavior.
- Pay attention to whether or not you are exhibiting these negative behaviors in your life, and make a commitment to replace negative behavior is with positive behaviors.
