One of the great books that I have read in the last year is entitled The Four Agreements - A Practical Guide To Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz. You will find that you can experience greater satisfaction in your life when you decide to make these agreements with yourself and live accordingly. I do encourage you to read the book in its entirety even though I offer you a synopsis of the greater lines that Don Miguel discusses.
Be impeccable with your word
- Speak with integrity
- Say only what you mean
- Avoid words to speak against yourself or for gossip about others
- Use the power of your words for truth and love (the love concept)
- Nothing others do is because of you
- What others say and do is a projection of their own reality
- When you are immune of the opinion of others, you will not be a victim of needless suffering
- Find the courage to ask questions and express what you want
- Communicate with others clearly to avoid misunderstandings, sadness or drama
- Your best will change from moment to moment
- It will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick
- Under any circumstance always do your best
- You will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret
Though at first reading you may find some of these concepts difficult to live, I invite you to start to live each concept moment by moment, day by day, and experience the profound effects that this will have on you and on all the relationships you live, whether personal or professional, at home, at school or at work, on the street, at the grocery store and wherever you go. The serenity you experience and the wisdom you will share by being, will be, in my opinion, unequalled. It is my hope that you will experience the same. Go out to the world and be the best that you can be, observe and experience the Universe as you may never have before, and touch the hearts and souls of people everywhere. I believe that living these simple principles is equivalent to "paying it forward" and creating a better world. What you see in the Universe sees you - when you put out love, faith, courage, confidence, encouragement, support and all things great, the Universe gives you more in return. If the mass majority of people decided to live according to the four agreements, we would have a better world wouldn't we?
