This message just came in from a friend and I thought it appropriate to share it with all of you.

I think you would all agree that I am basically a pretty happy person. Being happy most of the time serves me well and I am much happier just being happy. (DUH!) It is the norm for me to smile at people I don't know or to wish "a great day" to everyone as I exit a crowded elevator. I always chuckle when they are completely dumbfounded that I spoke to them at all...

My challenge is that I get really frustrated with unhappy people. For instance, today I pulled into the drive through at my local bank. It was 7:30am, and the day was quite beautiful, warm and sunny. The teller greeted me and asked "how I was" to which I answered, "EXCELLENT, thank you. How are you?"

Her face turned grim as she replied, "Not that great." I was surprised and said back, "I am sorry to hear that, why?" To which she responded, "It's the weather- I feel terrible." The weather? Terrible? Jeez- I had no idea what the weather was like inside the bank but as far as I could tell outside it was beautiful and sunny and warm. It's way too early for allergy season and even if it was allergies, this person was making a conscious effort to be/feel terrible.

So here's the rub. Coincidentally, I just happened to be listening to CD number 3 of "The Secret" so to say the least I was feeling even more positively than normal and while I was waiting for her to complete my transaction I was biting my tongue and trying my best to not get up on my soap box and say, "The choice is yours. You can choose to be happy or you can choose to be miserable."

What I chose to say when time allowed was "Put on some happy music. Get yourself out of that funk." To which she smiled at me and when she smiled her face lit up so I added, "You are way too beautiful to feel terrible." And then she smiled some more. And I wondered when the last time was that someone told her she was beautiful, let alone a perfect stranger.

So here is my message for this week:
"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
-Leo Buscaglia

Have an incredible rest of the week and know that I am always here for you - thinking you are beautiful.
